Cypress Belles Chapter
What an exciting night it was – that May 1999 evening when we were invited to a meeting at Foundry United Methodist Church in Jersey Village to discuss the possibility of starting a new NCL Chapter in our area! Many of us had received rejection letters from surrounding Chapters, so we were thrilled to hear that there may be enough interest to form a new Chapter. We were so pleased to see that yes, there was plenty of interest in forming a new Chapter!
It was amazing how quickly the new Board was formed that very night! It was exciting to see a show of hands for each grade level – 7th, 8th, 9th (with almost 30 interested in this class!), and 10th (which would be the oldest grade in our new Chapter). Next came the tasks of deciding on a name for our new Chapter, writing all the new Chapter documents and the multitude of other tasks that we needed to accomplish to get our Chapter underway. We were off and running from the start – our Cypress Belles Chapter quickly organized and by the following Fall, we were ready to begin our first Patroness and Ticktocker Meetings! At each Patroness Meeting, we crowded around tables set up with the various philanthropy opportunities and signed up to work. E-mail was not yet the preferred method of communication, so our Chapter newsletters were mailed to us. It truly was an exciting time for all of us!
