Our Program

National Charity League, Inc. is a mother-daughter organization dedicated to serving the communities in which chapters are formed and to fostering the mother-daughter relationship. Our goal is to promote a sense of community responsibility in our daughters and strengthen the mother-daughter relationship.

The daughters, or Ticktockers, along with their mothers participate in a 6-year educational program of philanthropic work, leadership training, educational activities, and cultural events.

Philanthropy Work

Each chapter of National Charity League considers the local community’s needs and determines the philanthropies to support. This support comes in the form of time and organizational skills, and may involve fund-raising. The Orchard Valley chapter currently supports:

•    InnVision
•    American Red Cross - Operation Care and Comfort
•    Habitat for Humanity Silicon Valley
•    Meals on Wheels
•    Special Olympics of Northern California
•    Stretch to Kindergarten
•    Avenidas
•    Acterra
•    Friends of the Stevens Creek Trail

Educational Activities

Educational activities are designed to teach our daughters to develop new life skills, be self-assured in social settings, to demonstrate good manners, and to respect others.

•    Personal growth training
•    College admissions advice
•    Personal finance skills
•    Event planning

Leadership Training

The leadership training program teaches basic leadership skills.  Some of the leadership activities of our chapter include:

•    Organizational skills
•    Team building
•    Parliamentary procedures
•    Time management
•    Ticktockers assume leadership positions within their grade level

Cultural Experiences

Cultural events help develop community awareness and cultural sensitivity. Some of the cultural experiences of local chapters include:

•    Performing Arts: Music, theater, dance
•    Visual Arts
•    Museums
•    Cultural centers

More About Our Philanthropies

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY (H4H) is dedicated to eliminating poverty housing and homelessness through the building of homes in partnership with families in need.  Our members help H4H by building homes, partnering with specified families in need, as well as providing volunteers for fund-raising and dedication events.

MEALS ON WHEELS (MOW) provides support services and nutritional services for the elderly and underserved.  Our members help to prepare and distribute meals and work on special projects such as Adopt_A-Senior holiday support.  We also volunteer in their food pantry, pet food depot, and provide volunteer support to their events.

INNVISION provides housing and food to homeless men, women, and children.  They also provide assistance with transitioning to independent living and job placement.  Our members help in their holiday Toy Drive and in their Donation Depot Store, and provide on site child care for parents in job training.  We also prepare and serve dinner with food provided by Innvision or other agencies.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS is dedicated to providing year-round training and athletic competition for developmentally challenged children and adults. Our members help in the preparing for and providing on-site support for Special Olympics events. Our members may also provide support for athletic coaching.

AVENIDAS - a Senior Day Health Center.  Our members help with crafts, lunch, gardening, exercise groups, games, etc.  We also help with holiday events.

ACTERRA   - an environmentally-focused organization working on habitat restoration.  Opportunities exist for ongoing weekend work and/or special days for just our chapter.

FRIENDS OF THE STEVENS CREEK TRAIL - an environmentally-focused organization focused on the maintenance of the Stevens Creek trail.  Activities include ongoing maintenance, trash pick-up, and helping with two events - one in the spring and a run in the fall.
