Free Food Program For Kids Sees Uptick in Demand

Although sightings of $200,000 sports cars are common in the Tri-Valley, many local schools are confronting hunger among thousands of low-income children who qualify to receive free or discounted lunch.

But how do they combat it on the weekend?

Open Heart Kitchen, a nonprofit based in Livermore, has been filling the gap by delivering around 2,100 free meals every week to 21 schools throughout the valley, including those in Livermore, Pleasanton and Dublin.
